EASY STREET WINS BIG AT DESIGN AWARDS!
It's not like people needed extra encouragement to live on Easy Street in Byron Bay, but the Australian Institute of Architects has just announced the winners of the 2020 NSW Country Division Awards and our very own Easy Street Living took home a couple of big awards.
A total of 25 projects were recognised from all corners of the state including the Northern Rivers, central NSW and even across the sea on Lord Howe Island.
“Architects working on regional projects across the vast state of NSW face different challenges to those working on city-based projects,” said awards jury chair Nicholas Brown.
“The architects recognised in this year’s awards demonstrate a deep understanding of place and creative approach to design that responds to the diverse lifestyles and environmental challenges across NSW – from mountains to coast, river lands to bush.”
One of the few multi-award-winning projects, Easy Street Living took out the Residential Architecture/Multiple Housing Award and the Sustainable Architecture Award, both of which went to DFJ Architects.
"We’re extremely proud of the Easy Street Living apartments and the community we’ve helped create," said project architect Fraser Williams-Martin. "We've been overwhelmed by the resident's enthusiasm for the development and in embracing simple, small, low impact living. It feels like Easy Street Living was the product everyone wanted but just didn’t know it. Winning these awards is validation that bigger isn’t always better. A big shout out to Habitat for continuing to push boundaries and a special thanks to Byron council for their leap of faith in supporting this concept."
NSW Chapter President Kathlyn Loseby said, “2020 was a particularly difficult year for regional NSW with unprecedented challenges including bushfires, floods and the pandemic. The contribution regional architects make to local communities through sustainable, resilient design, and creating place that enriches wellbeing cannot be taken for granted.”
